Alan’s experience and understanding of the 12-month Accelerated Exam resulted in my first utility patent being granted 8 months after filing.
Alan’s dedication and personal skills are a great asset, and I always look forward to our meetings. Alan has a great mind for strategy. I admire and respect his integrity and focus.[/us_testimonial]
Alan is extraordinarily thorough, which is just want you need when filling a patent. The only negative I can say, which is a slight one, is that his exceptional attention to detail might have resulted in a patent that is a little larger than it needed to be. But of course it’s better to error on too much than little, and the end result is a very complete and comprehensive patent.
The bottom line is that my patent was approved on the first go around, and it’s as broad as I could have hoped for. I had a considered filling the patent myself, but in retrospect I would have been totally lost without him. Having Alan to guide me through the process and explain the many arcane patent requirements was invaluable. I can recommend Alan without hesitation.[/us_testimonial]
I worked with Alan purely remotely, and despite never meeting face-to-face always felt that we were in lock-step while writing the patents. Generally, I used video conference to explain inventions/prototypes to him and for strategic sessions. Where there was additional detail needed, I supplied photos, diagrams, and text descriptions. These interactions were efficient and very enjoyable, and although I’m sure Alan is great to work with in-person I don’t feel anything was lost by our remoteness.
Overall, I was pleased with all aspects of Alan’s patent work. His patentability search was incredibly thorough, his invention description was clear, comprehensive and included beautiful diagrams, and the claims he wrote were meticulously architected. Alan is incredibly knowledgeable in the field of patents and the craft of writing them, and without reservation I recommend him.[/us_testimonial]
[us_testimonial author=”Jim Mazur” company=”former Director of Product Management, Stanton”]I’ve worked with Alan is several capacities so its quite hard to write this review. I think it is very important to touch on each of his capabilities to understand why he is such an important asset for any company looking for his services.First, and maybe not foremost for all, but as a colleague… My years working with Alan in the same company bring great memories. I can’t say that I’ve ever worked with a professional that had such great personal attributes as Alan. I know on linkedin that recommendations can become somewhat tainted by friendships, but it would hard to write a review of Alan and not mention that he views working with people as creating a bond whereas both parties grow and feel comfortable and at ease with each other. During his time as VP of engineering at Stanton, he treated everyone he worked with as a partner, friend and equal. I can say for sure this leadership style led to great things being achieved because of his ability to build teams and most importantly trust.
I feel fortunate to have watched Alan move into his first VP role at Stanton. During this time I was working in product design / development and to some degree I was quite spoiled by having Alan running the engineering team. As a designer, I think it is in my blood to push boundaries and try to create the impossible. Alan was always there to brainstorm on how to achieve such goals and quite amazingly he had the ability to use the creative side of his mind to solve the practical challenges at hand. Unlike a lot of engineers he didn’t confine himself to the logical blocks that he was trained to use, instead he found novel ways to solve complex problems that would leave most giving up at best.
As Alan ventured into intellectual property and patents, I had no doubt that this would be a great path for him. For me, patents almost contradict the creative world. Inventor’s are dreamers, not lawyers and probably most fail because of this. Alan on the other hand is the perfect gateway in this regard. His creative thinking coupled with his technical genius really started to shine when it came to drafting patents. Having a few patents go through under Alan’s watch I can attest for his ability to get behind the big abstract picture of an invention and distill it down to parts that both encapsulate the ideas to be protected, but more so into concrete claims that are future proof and not isolating to the point in which a patent becomes useless.
In closing, I could only compare Alan’s ability to a great architect who constructs mega-structures that are both breathtaking to the eye and obey all the laws of engineering and structure. He is the most amazing person I have ever worked with and I’m not sure I will ever meet someone who will top his abilities. I recommend him with the highest regards.[/us_testimonial]
Additionally, we have requested patent searches from Alan’s firm, and I can personally state that they are the most complete and detailed searches I have ever received. I was quite impressed.[/us_testimonial][us_testimonial author=”Mike Neumann” company=”former Director of Product Management, Cerwin Vega & KRK”]Alan’s patent services provide excellent education and planning to insure that your entire company is working together to protect designs and intellectual property. He provides excellent informational content plus group planning so that everyone from marketing to engineering is taking a team approach to this all important subject. Alan’s presentation is eye opening by providing insights into protecting designs or I.P. you may not be aware of. I recommend his services not only to those companies currently looking for I.P. protection but also to those that may not be aware of the importance of thinking about this subject strategically.[/us_testimonial]
As a manufacturing company, ours is organized into three brand functions. The patent section interacts with virtually all of them. Therefore when retained to manage our patent dealings across the brands which if not handled correctly can prove to be costly Alan was the right person. Alan, who has vast knowledge of our products, brings tremendous insight to properly submit patent filings; moreover he is extremely detailed, informative, timely and resourceful, which has been demonstrated in the managing of our patents.
Alan’s background as an engineer is a big advantage for any manufacturing company. In addition he can communicate with our in-house engineers and people in many ways and on many levels, which make him great to work with. In fact, Alan’s people skills have saved the day for more than one occasion.
I could continue on with more glowing accounts of Alan, but will instead simply say that I really do think the world of him and trust his judgment. We are glad to have been able to continue a business relationship with him by having him handle all our companies’ patent needs.
I would without any reservation recommend Alan Flum to handle all the patent matters in any company.[/us_testimonial]
